Finally a reprieve from the heat
OK, I never thought I'd say this, but I think I'm over summer. And I'm pretty sure much of Victoria will concur.  We have had some amazing sunsets lately. Vintage is still looking to be pretty good, as long as this rain slows down. Like last year there will very low tonnes, which should equal good quality.

All aboard - The Coonawarra siding (read: train station).

Meet Lucy Elizabeth Reschke
Meet the newest member of the Koonara Team. Lucy was born 2nd of February, 2009 at approximately 1.04 in the afternoon. Weighing in at a not-too-shabby 7 pounds 14, and stretching to an impressive 52cm. A mass of dark hair like her dad, blue eyes like her mum. And like her mum, is cuter than a monkey with a puppy.

Yes, the world is really, REALLY big.

What is that dang incessant clicking sound?

Its' coming...it's coming.....Buuaaarrp!

Wine Deal: The Lucy Reschke special

Bar Joke
A bear walks into a bar. He goes up to the bartender and says "Can I have a Gin and ....................................Tonic Please?"
The Barman replies "Why the large pause?"
The bear holds up his paws and says "I'm a bear!!"
(Thanks Jules)

Susie Nolan & Ben Harris
Brilliant choice of venue - at Robe, overlooking the beach where Nicole & I were married. These guys were prepared though, with a marquee just in case they had a bit of bad weather. No need, turns out, as another perfect wedding day was organised by the man (woman) upstairs. Both are in the grape growing game, with Ben being the Viticulturalist for Fosters in Robe, and Susie having vineyards and the Nolan label in Wrattonbully. A great couple, who we are privileged to call friends.

Wise advice:

Never confuse your career with your life.

Place salad onto service plate and top with avocado, tomatoes and peanuts.

Wine to go:
To match the recipe:
Koonara Adelaide Hills Riesling 2007 - $17
For me, the best time to drink a Riesling is once it has been in the bottle for at least 18 months, softening that high acid into richer flavours.

25 d’Gris Pinot Gris 2008 - Hand Picked - $30
I was going to review the shiraz, but it's already sold out. And if you want this,
you'd want to be very quick - it has just been picked for Business Class on Qantas.

Koonara Ezra's Gift 2006 Coonawarra Shiraz - $24
Just released, this is probably the deepest colour shiraz we have created so far. Very, very happy with this. The wine was in 100% new (Super-premium) French Oak barrels. Will age well until 2020.

Wira Wira Woodhenge Shiraz 2006 - $27
I tried this the other night at a big dinner for Susie Harris's birthday (see photos above). About 15 wines on the table...and this wine shone. Can't vouch the 2007 is available on their website, but I would definitely search a few bottle shops for the 2006. I actually thought at $35 a pop it was still good value.

Music to go with the wine to go:
Mat Kearney - Big Coldplay fan? Too long between albums? Then this is your man. His voice is the spitting image of Chris Martin at times, and have an ambience around his songs like the Überband.

Happy Song: I can't seem to get the tune from Bendigo Bank out of my head, so I tracked it down. It's "Sleepy Tigers" by Her Space Holiday. You can download it free at http://www.itstartswithu.com.au/
