The Guardian Angel Piccolo, Sparkling, Mount Gambier 2015

    ,
$6.25 for Angel Guild members Comes in a box of 24 When wine is aged in fine oak barrels, a portion of it evaporates - winemakers call this the ‘Angel’s Share’. It was on this sentiment the Koonara angel was born. The piccolo is a mini version of our 750ml bottle, fabulous when you only feel like 1.5 glasses (we hear it does happen!). The cool 2015 year has given this wine the zesty apple and pear notes. This year we've given it more complexity by adding a small portion of aged chardonnay, creating a hint of honey and butterscotch. Food match: coconut crusted lobster medallions with chilli and lime zest on a bed of pear, rocket and mango. Download tasting notes PDF

Cape Banks, Chardonnay, Mount Gambier 2016

    ,
$22.50 for Angel Guild members Est. 1883, the Cape Banks Lighthouse is a significant orange monument 30 mins drive from our vineyards in Mount Gambier. Cool growing conditions, rocky mineraly soils, and low-yielding vines have helped create a complex wine - indeed a beacon of a Chardonnay. 2016 is, in our opinion, our best vintage yet. Organically grown grapes are starting to show the beautiful fruit spectrum of cool climate fruit. 50% new French oak Hogshead barrels for 9 months, going through malo-latic (2nd ferment) changing the malo acids into lactic acid, the same as in milk and butter, giving it a creamy mouth feel. 50% select yeast ferment - single ferment only keeping the crisp lime, pink lady apple and mineral notes. This is ‘left on lees’ (the dead yeast after ferment) and is stirred to increase flavours and complexity. Download tasting notes PDF

    Flowers for Lucy, Moscato 2016

    ,
$16.15 for Angel Guild members Three days a week our two little girls would stroll into the Cellar Door to say hello, and almost always they were holding flowers picked along the way. Alice’s flowers would proudly go to her Mum, while Lucy’s - with her arm out stretched proudly - went to me. “These are for you Dad,” she’d say. One day - when she is old enough to enjoy in moderation - the burst of floral flavours in this Moscato will be my flowers to her. Dru and Nicole Reschke.  Great balance of sweetness and refreshing lime, Flowers for Lucy has low alcohol – making it easier to have a glass or two before or after dinner. Food match: Summer berry trifle and homemade icecream. Lucy & Alice, Pinot Gris, Mount Gambier 2016

    ,
$18 for Angel Guild members Lucy & Alice is named after our two beautiful daughters. 2016 is, in our option, our best vintage yet. Crisp, fresh lively nashi pear with oyster shell mineral tones. Hints of guava notes stemming from the time on skins and the partial barrel ferment. As it warms in the glass, hints of honey and strawberry flesh shine through. Pinot Grigio and Pinot Gris are the same grape variety. Pinot Grigio is Italian, and Pinot Gris is French. “Grigio” and “Gris” both translate to grey, which is the colour of the grayish-blue fruit. Angel’s Footprints, Sauvignon Blanc, Mount Gambier 2016

    ,
$17.95 for Angel Guild members “Friends are angels that lift you up when your wings have forgotten how to fly. Many people walk through your life, but true friends leave footprints in your heart.” So raise your glass - here’s to friends.

Part barrel ferment has given this cool climate wine layers of complexity, with guava, crisp pink lady apples and gooseberry notes.

Mount Gambier is even cooler than Marlborough in New Zealand, so the long growing period allows the grapes to develop an abundance of flavours without losing the crisp freshness of a true cool-climate grape. This vineyard, and all our vineyards, only average four sprays per year for disease, using only organically certified products so as not to harm our delicate ecosystem. Download tasting notes PDF

A Song for Alice, Riesling, Mount Gambier 2015

    ,
$18 for Angel Guild members This wine is named after our little girl Alice (6 year), who loves to sing songs she has made up. Like this wine, they are beautiful in their purity and make you smile. When she is old enough, this will be our song to her. Just 40 minutes south of our Coonawarra vineyards are our Mount Gambier vineyards. Mount Gambier is the coolest region in mainland Australia and has perfect conditions for creating excellent Riesling. Razor-sharp flint rocks rise from the thin soils under vines, and the pure underground water flows from the famous Blue Lake. This vintage is fresh, crisp, lean with some lovely minerality and lemon/citrus characters. Food match: Vietnamese prawn and glass noodle salad. Awards: James Halliday 95 points, Gold Royal Adelaide Wine Show 2016, Gold Wine Showcase Magazine Download tasting notes PDF
