Part barrel ferment has given this cool climate wine layers of complexity, with guava, crisp pink lady apples and gooseberry notes.
Mount Gambier is even cooler than Marlborough in New Zealand, so the long growing period allows the grapes to develop an abundance of flavours without losing the crisp freshness of a true cool-climate grape.
This vineyard, and all our vineyards, only average four sprays per year for disease, using only organically certified products so as not to harm our delicate ecosystem.

The Ambriel’s Gift vineyard sits behind our house in Coonawarra, and is grown at a tiny 1 tonne per acre (the average for Coonawarra is 3.5 - 4 tonnes). The grapes were grown with minimal intervention, with only 4 organic sprays for the season. No pesticides have been used in this vineyard for over 10 years.
No expense was spared to make the best wine possible: it was aged in fine grain French oak 300 litre Hogsheads for 26 months before bottling. It contains below organic levels of sulphur, and is suitable for vegetarians and vegans.

This wine is named after our little girl Alice (6 year), who loves to sing songs she has made up. Like this wine, they are beautiful in their purity and make you smile. When she is old enough, this will be our song to her.
Just 40 minutes south of our Coonawarra vineyards are our Mount Gambier vineyards. Mount Gambier is the coolest region in mainland Australia and has perfect conditions for creating excellent Riesling. Razor-sharp flint rocks rise from the thin soils under vines, and the pure underground water flows from the famous Blue Lake.
This vintage is fresh, crisp, lean with some lovely minerality and lemon/citrus characters.
Food match: Vietnamese prawn and glass noodle salad.

Three days a week our two little girls would stroll into the Cellar Door to say hello, and almost always they were holding flowers picked along the way. Alice’s flowers would proudly go to her Mum, while Lucy’s - with her arm out stretched proudly - went to me. “These are for you Dad,” she’d say.

Ezra is the angel that encourages writers, and helps unlock self expression.
A cooler vintage in Coonawarra has allowed pepper characteristics to creep into the 2009 Shiraz, which additional layer of complexity to an already elegant wine. A tiny 1 tonne per acre was grown, and aged in 100% new fine grain French Grand Reserve Hogshead (300 litre) barrels.
The 2009 Ezra’s has a huge length of flavour of toasty mocha, blackcurrants, cloves and smoked vanilla.
It will age well to 2023 and beyond.
